Come to a game

The Maineiacs are back on Birch Street. Bring the kids, bring your neighbors, and take a seat in a building that has been hosting hockey since the year it opened.

Lewiston and St. Dom’s have been playing on this ice since 1958, and the high school tournaments still fill the place. Game dates, times, and tickets are on the team’s own site.

The building

67,000 square feet, and it has never sat still

Hockey is what the Colisée was built for, but it is not all that happens here. The floor has held boxing rings, basketball courts, rodeos, ice shows, theater, and the largest business trade show in Maine.

Since 1958

A special history in this building

The Colisée was built to replace the rink at St. Dominic Regional High School and opened in 1959 and has had a storied history since then.

  1. 1958–1959

    The Central Maine Youth Center opens

    Built on Birch Street to replace St. Dominic Regional High School’s rink. Lewiston teams have been playing hockey here continuously ever since.

  2. 1965

    Ali beats Liston in under three minutes

    On May 25, the heavyweight championship rematch came to Lewiston. Muhammad Ali, then fighting as Cassius Clay, ended it before the first round was out.

  3. 1973–1977

    The Maine Nordiques move in

    Four seasons of North American Hockey League hockey, played by a cast of characters straight out of Slap Shot. In the same era the Boston Celtics played exhibition games here, on what was then the largest portable basketball floor in the world.

  4. 2003–2011

    The first chapter of the Lewiston MAINEiacs

    The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team arrived in 2003 and won the President’s Cup in 2006.

  5. 2008

    Trade shows

    The Androscoggin County Business to Business show — the largest business trade show in Maine — has been held here every year since, alongside the annual Maine Home Show.

  6. 2025–2026

    The second chapter of the Lewiston MAINEiacs

    The MAINEiacs return to Birch Street for the 2025–2026 season, playing in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC).

And more! The Maine Democratic Convention, the AHL’s Portland Pirates, University of Maine hockey, the Lipizzaner stallions, the First Robotics competition, New England Fights’ Fight Night, and the Shrine Circus. State and New England high school championships have been won on this ice for more than sixty years, and the tournaments still bring a raucous house.
