In 2011, the hockey community of Lewiston/Auburn lost one of its greatest ambassadors, Georgette Richard.  Georgette’s love for the game started simply as a hockey mom of to two young boys.  Early morning practices and late-night drives home from out-of-state tournaments was an easy price to pay for watching her boys glide across the ice. Later in life, she would take great joy in becoming a “Hockey Grammy” to three of her own grandchildren, watching them learn to skate and grow on the Colisee’s sheet of ice. That love for the sport would eventually bring her to be employed at the Central Maine Civic Center (now known as the Androscoggin Bank Colisee) for 25 years.  Georgette was a mainstay at all functions there, but a special priority was given to the hockey events.  From the Lions Tournament, to the local high school teams (her heart belonged to St. Dom’s), and to the success of the Lewiston MAINEiacs – which she worked tirelessly to bring to town – Georgette strived to make the arena a welcoming place for all participants. My brother, sister and our families are extremely honored to have this youth hockey tournament named for our mother’s memory and wish good luck to all teams.

Yours in Hockey,
Steve Richard
